Blog entry Your Rice And Marie's Future
Marie Anika is Haitian and 8 years old. Her dream of working in a bank is made all the more possible by a meal of beans and rice that she receives at school.
Why? Because providing a meal at school is an incentive for parents to send their children to school rather than send them to work. By providing a meal to Marie, we help her to grow strong physically and mentally, as well as safeguard her education.
Following the devastating earthquake in Haiti one year ago, Freerice players were raising rice for the country to help the people affected by the disaster including girls like Marie.
At the moment, Marie still lives in a tent where her house used to be before the earthquake. But that hasn’t stopped her from going to school or dreaming about the future thanks to the hearty meals she eats everyday in class.
Many thanks to all the Freerice players for the time you dedicate to raising rice while you learn!
To mark the one year anniversary, all rice raised from January 2011 on Freerice will go to helping the people of Haiti. Find out why Haiti still needs our help

I love this website. I think stories like this are so inspiring. By continuing to donate rice, we can help more people like Marie make their dreams come true. Good Luck,Marie! And never stop dreaming!
:p
amazing story.......( sniffle ) unfortiantly, there are places in the world where worse things are happening. this hardly tops the list. mostly africa is being hit by disaster. sure, not earthquakes and stuff, but droughts and famine and disease outbreaks.africa needs help, people, more than haiti. take swaziland, for instance. swaziland is predicted not to be a country by 2012, due to severe HIV breakouts. why not help africa? i myself, am supporting rwanda, and i advise you support african countries too. maybe we might save africa. help save swaziland though. join a group supporting africa, like my friend, silvermist101.
her group supports swaziland. join it! please!

Let's do this thing! :D
I love this site! It's so inspiring! I've been trying to get my friends and family involved too!
It's good to know that we can make a difference in the world!(:
one small step can lead to something big.
I like it when people talk about people like Marie ; individual families instead of the (sadly) high numbers of people whose lives are destroyed by natural disasters. It makes me feel like I'm donating for people, people just like you and me, except people who are less fortunate, instead of just a number. Thanks for this amazing story!
Wow so cool! We should ALL convince people to join freerice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@BLAHRG you can donate! Go to https://usa.wfp.org/donate/free-rice?utm_source=freerice_banner&flag=1
Donating rice through the game is just one way to help, but we encourage people to get involved in as many ways as possible.
Also take a look at: http://wfp.org/get-involved
