Blog entry Slow load time on Freerice

Dear Freerice Players,

Today we launched a new version of Freerice. The new features are based on requests emailed by players like you over the years, and we are thrilled to finally be able to implement them. However, due to the sudden increase in number of players, we are experiencing some problems with our server and are working hard to resolve the situation. The result is a very slow load time.

We ask for your patience and that you continue playing - Freerice has been able to raise enough to feed 4.2 million people since launch in 2007. This is purely through players such as yourself playing and sharing the site with friends.

We will keep you updated about the situation.

If you experience any additionally problems, please feel free to let us know either through the Feedback option or via email.

Just found out I could add a comment here. I started playing this week, in the old version. That was fast and fun. Today I got kicked off while playing and ended up in the new version and had to sign up to play. Now I don't feel like playing anymore, it's tooooooo slow. I timed it. MORE than 3 minutes before the answer came. Is this upgrade meant to increase or decrease the donations??? And does the old version still works or not? I'm not able to go back to it.

The page has become ridiculously slow!!!! It is taking much too long to get the answer and next word, I hope this will get better.

As usual for just about anything in this world, the "improvements" turn out to be drawbacks. This site is now slower than an arthritic turtle on Quaaludes.

I appreciate that you want to make improvements, but this new version is so slow that its just not worth trying to play until you resolve it. Can you not re-instate the old one while your trying to fix the problem?
