Blog entry Groups - The Why, How And Where
One of the most exciting features of the new Freerice is the ability to create a group. By creating a group, not only will you officially be able to claim that you have groupies, you will also be able to track the amount of rice that you and your group have raised.
Groups can be open or by invitation only. Any player on Freerice can join open groups, whereas the "Invite Only" groups are closed and players are only able to join if they have been sent an invitation. You can send an invite through Facebook, or by sharing the invitation link.
To create a group:
- Sign up for a Freerice account and log in
- Select "Groups"/"Create Group" in the top navigation area
- Select "Invite your Facebook Friends" if it is a closed group to allow your friends to join
- Choose a group name (note: this cannot be changed later on)
- Add a picture to represent your group (note: this cannot be changed later on. Maximum of 50x50px)
- Add a description
- Adding an external url is optional
- Choose between "Open" and "Invite Only"
- Choose a category, several categories or select "All Categories"
- Select "Create"
And that's all there is to it.
Let the race begin!
You can keep track of your group's total by visiting your "My Groups"
Other ways to use groups? Compare your group to others, hold a school tournament with each classroom creating its own group, find like-minded individuals, promote your brand/cause/idea, play with other subject specialists, etc.

How Do I Get A Photo In My File??
To publish a photo to your group, simply go to your group profile (you can find a list of your created and joined groups, when logged in, on http://freerice.com/groups/my My Groups List) and click "edit". Then
1. Click the "upload" button next to "Picture" field
2. Browse to where the image file is stored on your computer
3. Ensure the file name does not include any unusual characters
4. Either double click the file or click "Open"
5. Click "save" at the bottom of the Freerice page, or continue editing the page
To invite friends to join your group, you simply need to share you group profile link with them. Once they've registered and logged into Freerice, they will see a "Join" option on your group profile.

Great news Goodnews! :)
This new feature of freerice is actually pretty cool.
I really like the idea of a school tournament. If a bunch of teachers got together and did that, a lot of rice could be donated, even from just one school.
my group is in first place today
This is so great! Well done!
